Greensboro police say about 500 people gathered downtown on Thursday night to protest the election results. Two people were arrested.

Juan Miranda with the International Socialist Organization tells the News and Record of Greensboro the gathering grew over social media, and brought together a number of groups.

Minorities and members of the city's LGBT community said they wanted to make sure their voices were heard.

Another protest is planned Friday evening at UNC-Greensboro.

About 40 people demonstrated in Winston-Salem on Thursday night.
