A proposed $14 million settlement, filed in court on Monday, would end a class-action lawsuit against Warner/Chappell Music for its hold on the song “Happy Birthday.” The music publisher has collected money on the song for years, but courts have found the company lacks any valid copyright for the tune. The song could soon be in the public domain.
