A Triad-area technology manufacturer announced Friday it's expanding and making a major investment.

Qorvo says it is spending $25 million in a new facility in Guilford County.

The tech manufacturer formed earlier this year after a merger with two separate businesses. One of those companies, RF Micro Devices, has been in the community since the early 1990s.

The company says the expansion will add 100 jobs with an average salary of about $80,000 per year.

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan says the expansion is a big deal for the city and county.

“This is one of the most exciting announcements we've had in a long time,” Vaughan says. “And one thing that it really highlights is the fact that the City of Greensboro, the Guilford County commissioners, and the State of North Carolina really worked hand-in-glove to make this happen.”

Vaughan says while Qorvo has only pledged to add 100 employees so far, the company's new facility can hold 500, leaving open the possibility of further expansion in the future.

The company has joint headquarters in Greensboro and in Oregon, as well as a facility in High Point.
