The Southeast is becoming a popular launching site for aviation corporations and their suppliers.

Aviation experts are convening in Greensboro to share ideas on how to maximize their industry's future.
This is the second annual Global Opportunities Summit which focuses on economic development projects in the Piedmont.

Kip Blakely is with Timco, a company that provides upholstery upgrades as well as maintenance repairs and overhauls to commercial, military and freighter aircrafts. He says aviation is growing in the Triad and he believes the area is well-poised to be a leader in the global market. “We've got a great asset in PTI airport. Look at the expected 1,000 acres they will have which will have runway access.  Also, look at our educational pipeline we're building. We're going to have 300-400 young students coming out of high school every year that have a background in aviation.”

Blakely also says the Southeast provides easy access to North and South America, parts of Africa and some European countries.

In the Piedmont, about 200 companies support the area's aviation industry. Roughly 80 are advanced manufacturing.
