RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne. There are two types of people in this world - those who pull their toilet paper over the roll and those who hang it under. Journalist Owen Williams thinks he's found the right way to do it. He tweeted a picture of the first patent for TP. The original drawings from 1891 by a New York inventor show a genius idea. Who knew? Perforated rolls of paper - quite clearly, the debate ends here - hanging over the roll. It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
