A discrimination case against the Boy Scouts of America is now in the hands of a Forsyth County jury. The case involves whether race played a factor in how a fired scout leader was treated.

The three-week trial focuses on allegations that the Haitian-American man was racially harassed at work and that hundreds of minority children were denied opportunities in Scouting.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports that Jean Dominique was fired from his district leadership job in 2011 and now seeks more than $6 million in damages. He's suing for emotional and mental distress and lost earnings.

Attorneys for the Boy Scouts argue that the case is not about Dominique's race but his poor job performance. They say he had work issues starting five years before he was fired, and his termination came after he showed no signs of substantial improvement.
