An exclusive collection of Ansel Adams' photographs is on display at Reynolda House Museum of American Art in Winston-Salem.

Ansel Adams is known for capturing vast landscapes with a sharpness of detail that was unusual for his time. His photographs signaled a break from the softer focus of most early 20th-century photographs.

His recognizable work like “Moonrise Over Hernandez” will be on view at Ansel Adams: Eloquent Light. The exhibition features 37 photographs that have never been shown together.

Phil Archer is Director of Programs and Interpretations at Reynolda House. He says that Adams created the “definitive view of unique 'wild places' in the American West.”

“You can see more in an Ansel Adams photograph than you can see if you're out there in Yosemite, because our eyes can only focus one place at one time. But he had this unbelievable depth of detail and depth of focus for these places that are impossibly huge.”

The exhibition runs through July 17th at the Mary and Charlie Babcock Wing Gallery at Reynolda House.
