As UNC School of the Arts Resident Opera Stage Director Steven LaCosse began contemplating a school production of Gian Carlo Menotti's Pulitzer Prize winning opera The Consul, the idea began making more and more sense.

Border issues in America were front page news, and the year of The Consul's premiere, 1950, just happened to coincide with the first year Guys & Dolls opened on Broadway. UNCSA's run of that musical wrapped up yesterday.

Gian Carlo Menotti's Pulitzer Prize winning opera The Consul opens Wednesday, April 22nd at 7:30pm at the Agnes de Mille Theatre on the campus of UNCSA where it will run through the 26th at 2pm.

David Ford spoke with UNC School of the Arts Scenic Design student Jonathan Dahm Robertson, Resident Opera Stage Director Steven LaCosse, and A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute soprano Jaclyn Surso.
