Winston-Salem Turns 100.

This year, the city of Winston-Salem turns 100. City leaders are planning a centennial celebration May 9-12 to celebrate the history of the hyphenated city. Part of the festivities include honoring residents who are 100 years or older

Sue Spainhour, with the city’s Marketing and Communications Department says, “We are currently looking for residents of Winston-Salem who are 100 years or older. We will have a luncheon at the Benton Convention Center for them. We will have a guest speaker Mike Wells and the Snappy Tappers and the Dixie Land Jazz Band will be performing as well.”

Spainhour says so far, the city has identified about 40 people in the city who are 100 years or older.

The oldest centenarian will receive special recognition at the luncheon on May 10. All of them will receive a personalized proclamation from Mayor Allen Joines.
