On Sunday afternoon, December 23 at 5:30pm, St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem will celebrate a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in the nave.

  • St. Paul's Episcopal Church organist and choir master John Cummins talks festivals, feasts, lessons, and light shows with Triad Arts host David Ford.
It's the story of humanity's fall, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus as told in nine readings from the Bible. The lessons will be read by members of the Winston-Salem community and the leadership of the parish, and they’ll be interspersed with selections of carols sung by the St. Paul’s Choir, Chorale and Choristers. This year at St. Paul’s, Christmas Eve will feature Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols as the prelude during the services at 5:00 and 11:00. And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 85th Annual Feast of Lights on January 6 at 5:30 p.m. The choruses in all three ceremonies will be led by organist and choirmaster Dr. John Cummins. He stopped by to chat about holiday musical traditions old and new at St. Paul's.
